"Ravinia Festival is the oldest outdoor music festival in North America and is lauded for presenting world-class music. The festival attracts about 600,000 listeners to some 120 to 150 events that span all genres from classical music to jazz to music theater over each three-month summer season... There's more to Ravinia than merely the world's greatest music. For as many people who walk through Ravinia's gate each summer, there are just as many ways to enjoy what we call 'The Ravinia Experience.'"—Description by festival

"RedGorilla Music Fest launched six years ago as the DreamScapers Artist Showcase and grew each year under that name. In 2007, the showcase branded the event RedGorilla Music Fest, and over 200 artists participated in shows at venues on 6th Street in Austin, Texas. In 2008, RedGorilla hosted 300 bands, solo artists, and DJs and expanded the event to eight stages. The 2009 festival will boast even more artists and venues, and its mission still remains the same: to promote up-and-coming independent music in all genres and help independent artists further their careers. The 2009 RedGorilla showcases will take place [concurrently with SXSW) from Wednesday, March 18 to Saturday, March 21 in venues on 6th Street, right in the heart of all the action. The event continues to be a “No Badge Required” event; it is free to attend and is open to the general public."—Description by festival

"Reggae on the River festival is an all-day celebration of the best in reggae and world music. The silver anniversary of the legendary Reggae on the River festival will take place along the shores of the majestic Eel River at Benbow Lake State Recreation Area in Southern Humboldt County, CA. Although much different in form than the mega fests of recent memory, Reggae on the River has returned to its roots as a community event, a crucial component of the festival’s appeal in the early days. Of course, great music was the other key ingredient and, in honor of this spirit, Reggae on the River 2009 will feature a diverse mix of top class international artists in an intimate family setting complete with craft vendors, a children’s area, and delicious food and drink to support local non-profit organizations." - Description by festival There aren't any camping grounds on-site, however, there are plenty camping options surrounding the grounds area and information on these locations can be found at the festival website. - FP

The third edition of the successor to the classic Reggae On the River, Humboldt County-based Reggae Rising is without a doubt the best collection of reggae and dancehall performers in the U.S. Nestled in a valley of redwoods, the festival's Dimmick Ranch venue presents a very unorthodox setting for such an event as Reggae Rising. Nevertheless, RR, and Reggae On The River before it, have attracted the best from the worlds of roots, rock-steady and dancehall.
