PROFILEOf all major American festivals (those fests in the U.S. with an economic impact of roughly $10 mil. or more) Savannah is by far the hardest to pigeonhole; it has become the only music festival in America that completely deserves to call itself simply a "Music Festival," without any statement of genre in its title. In its sixth year, the festival's organizers offer perfomances by artists ranging from the Beaux Arts Trio to the Derek Trucks Band, though the diversity of the lineup needs to be heard to be believed. Activities outside of the festival's core programming, which include huge in-house and in-the field musical education program and a thematically-evolving American traditional musics competition, effectively elevate it to the international stage, alongside the likes of the U.K.'s Glastonbury Performing Arts Festival, Switzerland's Montreux Jazz Festival and Italy's Festival della canzone italiana.
